ACHRO Town Hall – Technology & Innovation: HR Integration (and Artificial Intelligence)

When

Where

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools are rapidly redefining how organizations operate, communicate, and support their workforce.  This technological shift presents both tremendous opportunity for transformation and critical responsibility within the California Community Colleges – and HR leaders are at the center of this transformation. This town hall will explore the strategic potential of AI in higher education HR: how it can streamline operations, enhance workforce planning, and improve decision-making at scale. We’ll discuss the cultural and organizational shifts required to embrace AI responsibly, including equity, ethics, and governance considerations.

We’ll discuss emerging trends that are redefining workplace expectations, workforce capabilities, and organizational culture — and what this means for our system. Through facilitated discussion and shared examples from across the system, participants will consider strategic questions: How can HR leverage these technologies while protecting privacy? Where can bias be identified and conversely how can AI tools be used specifically to mitigate bias in existing processes? How do we offer professional development to our teams for new competencies and constantly evolving technologies while performance expectations remain consistent? And how do we ensure technology supports mission-driven service to students and employees?

Join us as we reimagine how human expertise and AI can work together to advance our mission and prepare our institutions for the future of work.

Professional Learning Outcomes:

  1. Identify and assess key opportunities within their HR operations (e.g., recruitment, onboarding, documentation, employee communications, compliance tracking) where AI and technology integration can deliver efficiency, consistency, or enhanced service — and distinguish those from areas where human-centered judgment must remain.
  2. Articulate a responsible implementation strategy for integrating AI or digital HR tools — including data privacy considerations, ethical guardrails, and alignment with institutional values (such as equity, transparency, and inclusion) — tailored to the context of California Community Colleges.
  3. Design a preliminary action plan or pilot framework for introducing technology integration in their college’s HR unit — specifying scope (e.g., recruitment, onboarding, record-keeping), stakeholder roles (HR staff, administrators, managers), success
